How many
home schoolers are there nationwide?
A. In a study published in 1997, Dr. Brian Ray of the National Home
Education Research Institute estimated that there were 1.23 million children
home schooled in America during the 1996-1997 school year.
Home schooling has
grown at about 15% per year since 1990. With this growth rate in consideration
HSLDA estimates there are about 1.5 million children home schooling in the
1997-1998 school year. In March of 1997 a Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll
found that 6% of parents “Home-schooled, keeping [their] child out of school and
teaching the child at home.”

Why do parents decide to home educate their children?
A. Most parents decide to home school because they feel they can provide
a better education for their children than public schools or private
schools offer. The rampant problems of drugs, crime, violence, teen
pregnancy, and sexually transmitted diseases in our nation’s schools are
compelling parents to find alternative learning environments free from
these social ills. Home schooling allows parents to promote good
academics, common sense morality, and family unity.

JumpStart Spanish from Knowledge
Adventure..You've probably heard that children have a much
higher
 propensity
and retention rate for language learning than adults. Some
studies say that if you learn multiple languages at a very young
age, you have a much better chance of remembering them over the
long term.
Programs like JumpStart Spanish are designed especially for
children in preschool, kindergarten, and the first grade to make
the most of this aptitude. We have been struggling to find a
good software that helps teach our son Spanish. Most of the
software we previewed were "flashcards." We finally found the
best foreign language kids software I have seen.

faced fierce or multiple legal conflicts in South Carolina, Pennsylvania, Ohio,
Michigan, Virginia, Iowa, Tennessee, New York, Rhode Island, and North Dakota
just to name a few.

“Finding Nemo,” a software
title that tracks the story line of the Disney/Pixar movie is in a league
of its own.
Players
follow both Nemo, a young clownfish, and his father, Marlin, when
they become separated in the Great Barrier Reef. Nemo is captured by
a scuba diver and ends up in an aquarium in a dentist’s office.
The software
allows players to switch between two storylines: one under the ocean
with Marlin, and the other inside the fish tank with Nemo.
Under the
ocean, Marlin desperately tries to find Nemo by swimming into
unfamiliar waters rife with predators and inside the dentist
office’s aquarium, Gil, the leader of the Tank Gang, sends Nemo on a
mission to gain the trust of the other inhabitants of the tank. When
Nemo succeeds, he is initiated into the Tank Gang and they help him
to escape.
This
software is a terrific way to enhance the movie experience. By
guiding Nemo and Marlin, kids explore two spectacular underwater
worlds and view clips from the movie. Players collect items, solve
problems, and play a series of arcade games that help Nemo and
Marlin find each other. Players interact with a host of hilarious
characters including Bruce, the great white shark, who has sworn off
eating fish and joined Fish-A-Holics. Don’t miss this one!
